This tests must run for a minumun of 52 hours. This monitors hourly readings and gives a test period average, you get your results the same day.

How is Radon Measured?

Radon is measured in Pico Curies per liter of air (pCi/L). While no level of radon exposure is considered safe, EPA has set an action level at 4 pCi/L. If radon test in a home shows levels at or above 4 pCi/L, the home should be fixed.

How Can I Fix My Home if it Has Elevated Levels?

You Can Mitigate Your Home for Radon

A Certified Mitigator can:

  • Install a system to reduce radon levels.
  • Prevent it from ever entering the living space.
  • Contact Minnesota Department of Health for a list of qualified radon mitigators.
  • The EPA’s booklet Consumers Guide to Radon Reduction will be helpful in understanding radon mitigation in your home.

Radon Mitigation in a Home

  • The most commonly installed system is called “sub-slab depressurization”
  • System is simple, effective and energy-efficient.
  • Uses plumbing-type PVC pipe and a small fan to remove radon
  • We guarantee to bring levels to below 4 pCi/L

How Sub-Slab Depressurization Works in a Home

Suction created by fan draws radon from beneath the concrete slab and safely vents radon outdoors. This is the most common type of radon mitigation system.

What Determines the Cost of Mitigation?

  • What type of system needs to be installed?
  • Will the system run through the inside of the home or on the outside?
  • Where are the electrical access points?
  • Is your basement finished?
  • Do you have a drain tile system inside or outside of your foundation?
  • Do you have in-floor heating?
  • Are your floor drains in the basement connected to the main plumbing drain system?

As you can see, each system has to be custom-tailored to your home.
